With the political environment the past two years and the Women's March yesterday, I decided to make a post about what feminism means to me, and why I am a feminist.
Contrary to most men's beliefs, feminism is EQUALITY for all, including men! It is about women wanting the same rights and opportunities as men. It is about wanting equality for people of color, the LGBTQ+ community, and simply everyone in general. Where people get it twisted is when we say we want the same rights as white men. White men most obviously have the most rights, but they like to be ignorant and turn their heads at their obvious privilege. And not just men, many white women also ignore their privilege as one of the many reasons feminism is what is "wrong" in today's system and society.
I've had many arguments over the importance of feminism. SO MANY of my peers believe feminism is a toxic thing to believe in, yet go on to talk about how all Muslims are terrorists and that gay marriage is a sin. THAT IS THE PROBLEM IN SOCIETY. The ignorance in stereotyping, believing everything the president tries to tell us, not having their own opinion, or an abuse of acknowledgement. I am SO sick of the hate, and SO ready for change. Bring it on, because this generation, my generation and the one before me, will change the world.
Power to the young people. We are powerful. And we are the next generation leaders, so create your OWN opinion and open your mind. Do the research, and choose who you want to be.
